NetMeter shows the total data usage for a given network interface. It monitors data usage per session. Therefore, the usage counter values will reset upon reconnection. Additionally, the tool displays a download icon that activates during download or upload activities, enabling notifications for background downloads, such as Windows updates.
Upon initial launch, the data counters are centrally positioned on the screen. To reposition these counters, click on the globe icon in the system tray and select the "Movable" option. You can then drag the counters to your desired location on the screen. Once repositioning is complete, deselect the "Movable" option. Next, select the network interface you wish to monitor. If you prefer the counters to remain visible over other applications, enable the "Always On Top" option. The top counter indicates downloaded data, while the bottom counter displays uploaded data.
The program also features a download icon that appears on screen when the download/upload rate exceeds 300 KBPS for more than four seconds. This feature can be disabled by deselecting the "Show Download Icon" option. By right-clicking on this icon, you can open "Resource Monitor" (Windows tool) to investigate which programs or services are consuming network bandwidth.
NetMeter is designed to be resource-efficient, ensuring that running it in the background will not adversely affect your computer's performance.
